If you’ve been reading our posts, and you understand what we are trying to do here at Saayaraha – then maybe you would like to Get Involved with us as a volunteer and help our cause. Just an hour or two a month could really make a difference to our project, and to our beautiful country of Tanzania.
Who We Are and Why We Exist
You can read a bit more detail about us if you CLICK HERE – but the brief summary is that we exist to share the quality of Tourism and Hospitality within Tanzania, with the world.
Sure, there are government bodies that are supposed to do this already – Tanzania Tourism Board, Hotels Association of Tanzania, and the Tanzania Investment Centre to name just a few. But we all know that bureaucracy has its challenges, and more often than not, anything led by a government department in any country in the world, is completely out of touch with what people on the ground want to be reading.
We believe that we can make a bigger impact, doing what we do, in the way that we do it – by presenting reviews of bars, clubs, restuarants and hotels to the English speaking world, through this website and the social media platforms that support this site.
How To Get Involved
You could be someone that simply enjoys going out and socialising. Perhaps you’re an aspiring journalist that wants to get some content published to support your CV and your move into a professional career in journalism. Whatever your reasons, if you have some time to write some professional reviews and support it with some decent quality photographs then read on!
Simply submit your review as a Word Document. Type out the review in a similar style to how we write our reviews on the site. Include your photographs in the Word Document, however, we will also need the photographs as separate files too (in case we need to crop or compress the images to make them suitable for the website).
Volunteer Roles
We’d love to be able to pay everyone for their contributions, but we don’t generate any revenue to be able to do that. We don’t charge any bars, clubs, restaurants or hotels for a review. We think that this would create a bias to our reviews (it’s hard to give a bad review if someone is paying for it) and we prefer to be completely open and honest in everything that we publish.
So your contributions are entirely voluntary when you get involved. What you get in exchange for your time and effort is credits to you for your work, with your name published on our site as being the journalist. It’s a way to start building your own portfolio of published work and it can be used as examples of your talent when applying for paid journalism.
Review Submissions
Create a Zip file of the Word Document and the photographs. Include on your email the following:
- Your full name and your email address
- Whether or not you would like your name linked to the review.
- Your statement that you do not work for the bar, restaurants, club or hotel that you are reviewing.
- A photo of yourself (formal, to use as a profile photograph attached to the review that you are creating – something similar to a passport photograph or a photograph that you would use for a form of ID)
